THE MID-A MORGAN HORSE SHOW, 2009
It was excellent weather for the Mid-A Show this year - not too humid! -
which was great news for Harwich Tyrant and his rider/trainer, Kimber Sobeck.
From Thursday through Saturday, these two troopers entered 19 classes and placed in 16!
At the last minute, we decided to enter Open Jumping, since Tyrant had been clearing
three feet without a problem and turning like a dervish. Surely 2'9" would be cool.
Well, in front of god & everyone Tyrant decided to knock a few down - just to show his
fearlessness? Independence? As someone said to me a long time ago at The Lippitt Country Show,
"Who knows what's in their minds?"
After that, things definitely perked up. Tyrant and Kimber placed pretty well in all of the
Open Working Hunter classes, and in the Mediums they placed second in two of the Working Hunter
Over Fences classes, and first in one of them, making Reserve Champion Mediium Working Hunter.
They were also Reserve
Champions in both First & Second Level Dressage.
The biggest thrill for me as a breeder was when Tyrant was named Grand Champion in Sport Horse Suitability.
Kimber ran her heart out (glad it wasn't me), but Tyrant still scored down a bit for his lengthening at the
trot (7.5 isn't bad, though). It seems one needs to run about 30 mph to do this! Brian Ross, an S Judge
in Dressage, gave Tyrant a score of 78.5 under Kimber's handling! His comment was, "Very Good Stock!"
Kimber also showed the Three & Under winner of Suitability for Carlton Huhn and Frank Calhoun, their
Battersea Xanadu, who was also third overall!
It was heart-warming to know that a working Morgan who really looks like a Morgan and performs like a Morgan
can also be judged most suitable in his conformation by an important judge who is unrelated to the Morgan world.
Maybe one day Lippitt will no longer be the "L" word. Robert Lippitt Knight would have been proud!
Thanks to Kimber Sobeck for her incredibly hard work and dedication to her profession, to Sylvia Brohawn & her
friends Jessica & Ingrid for all of their wonderful help during the show, and to Brian Daly for the great photos!
